Thank you for participating in our Prosser Creek Restoration Project day!

To kick-off the 25th Anniversary Conference, the Sierra Nevada Alliance and SNAP members teamed up with Trout Unlimited and community volunteers to help with the ongoing restoration of Prosser Creek. More than 30 volunteers joined this year’s graduating AmeriCorps class as we implemented 12 cubic yards of gravel into the creek bed. This gravel will be dispersed by annual flow cycles and provide critical trout spawning habitat that has deteriorated since the construction of the Prosser Creek Dam.

A huge thank you to our diverse group of volunteers – moving that much gravel by hand is hard work! – and the heat did not make it any easier! Be sure to check out TakeCareTahoe.org to volunteer in similar events or to find ways to broaden your knowledge of the Basin.

Your work on Wednesday, August 15th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will improve water quality, native fish habitat, and riparian habitats. Volunteers will achieve these goals by constructing Beaver Dam Analogs, placing gravel in trout spawning habitats, and revegetating stream banks with native plants. Directions to parking area are below, this is a great opportunity engage with the community and learn about the great conservation work being done across the Range of Light, all while improving your watershed!

Directions: From Highway 89 north, take the Prosser Dam Rd. exit from the second round about. Continue on Prosser Dam Rd. for two miles, passing straight through both roundabouts. Keep right at a fork when the pavement turns to dirt. The road is in good shape. Continue to Prosser Creek Dam and take a right turn to access the west side of Prosser Creek. If you went over the dam, you went too far. Drive down to bottom of the road along Prosser Creek and park along the right side of road where we’ll be there to greet you.
